In the past football was just a simple ball game, you'd get a free stand at a game or a cheap ticket(considering the times we are in) but as you now can see most clubs are debt ridden or the mighty have fallen ala Rangers FC.
A recent study showed Arsenal FC selling the most expensive tickets for a match day at £126 and season tickets at £1,955 which must hurt some fans as they have not won a trophy in nearly 8 years! While a team in the third tier of Scottish football has the most cheapest for a match day at £9 and season tickets at £90.
Nowadays travel prices have gone racking up as well as food prices so for the average person they may have to cough up a weekly or monthly wage just to go watch their favourite team.Yes entertainment in football has become immensely great but peoples pockets are becoming more empty.
The following table shows the cost of watching a Premier League football game in 2012

Brilliant blog,
ReplyDeleteI do believe recession has affected me personally due to the fact that ticket prices are mega expensive and I can only go to a game once a year therefore I dont buy a season ticket.
Merchandise has affected me aswell as clubs change their kits nearly every season and as I am at college I need to save up and buy new tops etc every season.
I believe clubs know fans will pay huge amounts of money to watch their team and as a result clubs charge ridiculous amounts. I have had a season ticket for 12 years and i will always try my best to renew it each season despite money problems. However this season i have not decided to renew my ticket and this is due to the fact i am fed up with the owners, some of you might have heard of them; 'venkys'. I would rather spend my money watching a conference side then put money in their pockets.
ReplyDeleteIn this day and age i would rather sit at home and watch the football on sky, with the ridiculous prices charged by some clubs and the cost of travelling i believe the sky subscription gives you more value for money.
ReplyDeleteThe recession has greatly affected me as buying a ticket is the difference between paying this weeks bills or not, these are hard times and the recession has hit the working class harder then ever. The only way i can keep up with football now is in the pub or on the radio
ReplyDeleteEven though i believe the recession has affected my life, i have not stopped buying tickets due to the recession, however recently due to management of the club i have felt the need to protest with my feet and stop going to the games, however if need be i will always try my best to go to games
ReplyDeleteThe recession has limited the amount of games in which i can go to, clubs should be charging loyal fines good prices instead we are charged ridiculous prices not affordable by people in my situation
ReplyDeleteI wish clubs would realise how hard it is for some of the loyal fans, tickets and merchandise are not cheap and the cost of living is rising, the clubs get A decent amount of moneh through sponserships and tv revenues and they should use this revenue to help fans to afford tickets
ReplyDeleteHi great blog, the recession has not affected me personally but i know many it has, many of my friends have had to cut down on games but always try their best to attend when they can afford to do so. Many have had to give up other forms of 'luxuries', to some people football is part of their life.
ReplyDeleteAs a student the recession has hit me hard, the cost of living has gone up whereas the amount of jobs available has decreased, this has led to me spending less on tickets and not bieng able to buy a shirt which i have been doing in the past!
ReplyDeleteAs mentioned above i have also stopped spending on my football team but this is due to owner and management problems, i have opted to now spending my money on tv subscriptions such as sky who offer a range of different football games and sports.
ReplyDeleteThe recession has affected me majorly as pay has frozen where inflation has increased, at my football club the prices have not drastically increased, however as other daily goods have and bills increasing, this has led to me only bieng able to go to certain games
ReplyDeleteI believe the recession has affected me greatly in my life, however football is highly regarded in this household, me and my dad have not missed a game for 14 seasons. This was not untill last week where blackburn rovers sacked another manager and are in relegation zone, the club are becoming a joke. The only way i believe the owners will listen is by attendence lowering
ReplyDeletelol mosh the poshhhh
